August 24, Los Angeles, CA – The start of La Academia 2011 has made history. The most successful Spanish-language television program shattered all expectations not only by showcasing the talent of 35 aspiring performers hoping to become the next international star, but by becoming the first show of its type to be broadcast in 3-D.

The 360º stage that combined the classic elements – earth, fire, air, and water – was graced by the six student contestants representing Azteca America and Latinos in the United States. Five of them easily moved on to next week’s concert, but Gustavo from Chicago faced elimination. He avoided leaving the show thanks to the support he received from viewers who called and sent text messages supporting him.

Hosted by the charismatic Chilean Rafael Araneda and audience favorite Bibi Gaytán, the show kicked off with an introduction to the judges with the best credentials in the music business: “The Iron Judge” Arturo López Gavito, Chacho Gaytán, and returning to the panel, musical star Lolita Cortés. New headmaster of La Academia Eduardo Capetillo was also present with the school’s instructors.

First up to sing from the Azteca America representatives was Houston resident Noé, who along with Venezualan Ronald and Guatemalan Hanser formed a trio to sing “Llueve el Amor.” Noé was visibly moved when their performance was selected as the best of the night.

Impressing the judges with a fantastic rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Carmen from San Francisco and Tadeo from Yucatán secured their place in next week’s concert show thanks to their strong stage presence and amazing talent.

To cap off the first concert of La Academia 2011, Frank from Los Angeles teamed with Dariela and Danisha to sing “De Mí Enamórate” which impressed the public and the judges alike and was without a doubt one of the best performances of the evening.

It was an emotional night during the live broadcast of the show, which ran over three hours. Unfortunately, five contestants had to bid an early farewell to the show and their hopes of winning La Academia 2011. Eliminated that night were Elisa, Giselle, Arón, Yamileth, and Jacky, who will blaze their own trails in search of musical success.

Receiving the highest number of votes from viewers, the best singer of the night was Lizbeth from the Mexican state of Guerrero. She won a prize worth close to $3,000. Her rendition of “Cucurrucucú” quickly found a place in the hearts of the public.

La Academia 2011 will also host some of the biggest international stars and the premiere concert was no exception. Performing their hit single “Na de Na” that night were the Puerto Rican reggaetón sensation Ángel y Khriz. The luxurious orange carpet saw a slew of stars make their entrance. Lilí Brillanti, Mauricio Barcelata, Mónica Castañeda and Mauricio Mancera hosted the pre-concert show where they welcomed celebrities like beloved actress Gabriela Spanic, telenovela queen Edith González, as well as Azteca favorites like former La Academia contestants Nadia, Yahir, Cynthia, Erasmo, and Raúl and the cast of the new international Azteca super-production Huérfanas, coming to television very soon.

Former Vice President of Programming for Azteca America, Alberto Santini Lara, expressed his satisfaction at the results of the first concert show for La Academia 2011 stating, “We are operating at the highest level, comparable to any other major television network in the world. We have surprised Latin viewers. We are driven to be better and to offer only the best. The voices of these young performers were spectacular.”

Breaking all ratings records, and offering the best in entertainment, La Academia 2011 is back, stronger than ever and committed to Latin families.
