Los Angeles, CA, April 13, 2011 – Everything is ready for the upcoming premiere on Azteca America of the new production Cielo Rojo. The new drama marks the return of telenovela diva Edith González, who makes her debut in an Azteca production filled with love, passion, and vengeance alongside leading man Mauricio Islas. For the first time, a telenovela will air in Mexico and the United States concurrently. .

“We are very happy with this new project which, aside from launching simultaneously in both countries, is a very interesting telenovela with a great story and an excellent cast made up of actors many Latinos have grown up with and know well such as Edith González, Mauricio Islas, Hugo Stiglitz, and Regina Torné, among others. Cielo Rojo is a well-told and intense love story and everyone can identify with its universal themes. We are sure that viewers will quickly be reminded of the great telenovelas we all enjoy watching,” said Executive Vice President of Programming, Production and Marketing at Azteca America, Alberto Santini Lara, who is also General Director of Azteca 13 and Azteca Novelas in Mexico.

After a two-year absence from television in the United States, the star of telenovelas such as Camaleones, Doña Bárbara, Mundo de Fieras, and Salomé returns to television in Cielo Rojo. It is for Edith González a powerful telenovela with a strong character. “I want to do excellent work that is focused on what matters to the public. That is why I am taking this role of a strong and bold woman who endures difficulties in her life but maintains her goodness, her true essence,” stated the actress.

A special mass brought together the cast and crew south of Mexico City to mark the start of shooting this important project, which is expected to make its television debut in May.

After a passionate romance with Andrés (Mauricio Islas), Alma (Edith González) returns with a burning desire to take from life what she thinks she is due. Hers is a story of passion, ambition, intrigue, lies, and the pursuit of justice.

Also appearing in the telenovela are Regina Torné, who has starred in important Mexican films such as Like Water for Chocolate, and 1970s Mexican film star Hugo Stiglitz who returns to television and whose work in the United States includes the John Huston film Under the Volcano in 1984.

Drama and a great love story are the perfect ingredients for Cielo Rojo directed by Rafael Urióstegui and starring a spectacular cast that includes Edith González, Mauricio Islas, Alejandra Lazcano, Andrea Noli, the return of Colombian actress Aura Cristina Geithner, and a great supporting cast.

This telenovela will feature on-location shoots in scenic areas of Mexico including Mexico City and the states of Querétaro and Hidalgo.

For his part, Mauricio Islas, who last year played Emiliano in La Loba, underscored the respect and admiration he feels for his leading lady, Edith González, and said he feels very happy to be working in such a positive environment. “I believe strongly in projects that are run like this. Even before principal photography began, you could feel the good energy, the desire to do a good job, of everyone working towards a common goal,” he stated.

It is important to note that Azteca America is committed to bringing together Latin families through strong values. “We create programming so that people can be entertained, can nourish their cultural roots, and can feel closer to their countries of origin. Without a doubt, Azteca America is the best option,” concluded Azteca executive Alberto Santini Lara.
